NP-Greg Miller's Big Year

Greg Miller, Sugarcreek area resident, spent 1998 zigzagging across the continent to try and see as many species of birds in one calendar year as possible. Greg and two other birders broke the 700 mark! Their individual stories, as well as the interactive competition, are documented in Mark Obmascik’s book, The Big Year (2004). The book made USA Today’s Best Books of 2004 list, the New York Times Best Seller list at #35, and was an Amazon Top 100 Seller for weeks. Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson star in the movie The Big Year, which was released in October 2011. The film, based on the book, was produced by Ben Stiller and directed by David Frankel. Greg Miller served as the birding consultant for the movie. During his time with us, he will share how he got smitten by the birding bug as a child and will discuss what it’s like to go birding with Jack Black, ride in Owen Wilson’s Cadillac, and meet Steve Martin.
