SERVICE RESPONSE #3: Formal Learning Support

The library will provide library users with the materials, resources and services needed to aid in reaching their educational goals.

FORMAL LEARNING SUPPORT—ADULT DEPARTMENT

Objective #1 The number of home school families using library resources will increase by 5% each year.

Objective #2 The number of students tutored at the library will increase by 5% each year.

Objective #3 The use of the library’s public computers will increase by 5% each year.

FORMAL LEARNING SUPPORT—CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT

Objective #1 Within one year, the New Philadelphia location will establish and maintain a relationship with the curriculum coordinators of each school in its service location.

Objective #2 Within one year, the library’s website will be updated to include links to educational sites, to KnowItNow homework service and to library forms for educators.

Objective #3 The number of outreach programs to elementary schools will increase by 3% each year for five years.

Objective #4 The number of classroom tours in the children’s department will increase by 3% each year for five years.

Objective #5 Within five years, the library will have a plan to provide group study/tutor rooms.

Objective #6 Within one year, the library will aid in the establishment of a home schooling support group and will host four meetings of this group each school year.

FORMAL LEARNING SUPPORT—EXTENSION DEPARTMENT

Objective # 1 Within five years, establish a core collection of materials that support a home-school curriculum at each branch location.

Objective # 2 Within five years, establish a uniform core collection of (print) reference materials at each branch location.

Objective # 3 Within two years, establish a core collection of parent/teacher materials at each branch.

Objective #4 Within five years, library staff at each branch library will have received the training necessary to provide a high level of customer service in the areas of reference and reader’s advisory for all ages.

Objective # 5 Within one year, each branch librarian will establish and maintain a relationship with a school representative for the purpose of ongoing cooperation and support of local curriculum.
