Literacy

We are committed to meeting the literacy needs of all community residents.  To this end we are continually expanding both our bilingual collection and our collection of materials for Adult Literacy. Both collections are displayed in an easily accessible area of the library. Reference department staff will be able to assist you in finding the right material to match your reading level in English as well as in foreign languages.  In addition, we serve as a referral source for area literacy and GED classes.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Internet and More

Public computers feature English, Spanish, Multi-Language, and Bigprint interfaces. Computer users have the ability to perform Internet and word processing functions in a number of languages as well as the ability to view large size computer text and images.  Several of the public computers have Microsoft applications and combi-drives for saving documents.  Printing is available for a fee of .20/page after the first two copies.  Just call ahead or stop in to reserve a time to use one.

OPLIN

The Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) features various online research databases: magazines, newspapers, and other reference sources.  You may access OPLIN in the library, or from any Internet capable computer using your library card.

Microfilm

A Microfilm Scanner-Printer is available for public use.  Microfilm of The Times-Reporter and its predecessors from the 1800s to the present is available for viewing and printing.

Typewriter

The Reference Department offers an electronic self-correcting typewriter for public use.  Just call ahead or stop in to reserve a time to use it.

Magnifier Reader

Donated by the American Council of the Blind of Tuscarawas Valley, this magnifying reader allows documents and images to be enlarged and viewed against a white or black background and is available for public use in the adult reading room of the library.

Tours/Class Visits

We offer tours of the Adult Department and instruction in the use of library resources such as how to effectively use the card catalog to search for materials, how to locate items on the shelf, and the use of the microfilm reader. Given advance notice, we are also able to reserve public computers for use by your class group.

Booktalk Programs

A wonderful way to introduce you to books and authors you may not know about in a fun and entertaining way. Whether you interested in fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, inspirational or a mixed selection, we will tailor a program to meet your group needs, all in 15 minutes or less! To schedule a Booktalk Program at your location or at the Tuscarawas County Public Library, contact us at 330-364-4474 or e-mail the Reference Department at least two weeks in advance.

New Philadelphia High School Yearbooks

The Reference Department has most issues of the New Philadelphia High School yearbooks available for in-library use.

Tax Forms

We have copies of most IRS, State of Ohio, and New Philadelphia City Tax forms free of charge. If we don't have a form, copies are available in the IRS reproducible forms binder located at the Reference Desk or online @ www.irs.gov.

Assignment Alert

Assignment Alert lets the library know in advance when you and your students will need materials for class assignments. Teachers may submit a completed Assignment Alert form through this website or the form may be faxed, mailed or dropped off at the library. Reference staff will then select materials suitable for your assignment. At least one week notice will help us serve your students better. Additional copies of the form are available from the library or from the website.
