The Renovation Concept

The improvements will meet 21st Century library users needs and allow this beautiful building and its staff to continue to serve the county with quality materials, programs, and services.

 

 

 

 

Planned improvements include:

  • Relocation of book drop out of the traffic pattern of the busy alley and positioned so customers can drop materials without getting out of their cars
  • A drive-up window for customers who may not be able to get inside our building due to time constraints, physical limitations, or sleeping children/elderly passengers
  • A delivery access point out of the traffic pattern of the busy alley
  • 24/7 lockers for the public to be able pick up materials when the library is not open
  • Converting the existing garage to a new on-ground public space, with a new public entrance and customer service point, that will include seating areas, collections, and new public restrooms; windows will be added on the existing garage building toward the Willoughby property and Broadway Street and windows will be added on the backside of the third floor library building adjacent to the Willoughby property
  • An on-ground addition, placed in the existing handicap lot, to accommodate staff whose work of processing holds and new materials for our library system is contingent on daily deliveries
  • A new 3-bay garage built on the adjacent library property to house facilities tools/equipment and facilities staff, as well as mobile services collection, library-owned vehicles, and mobile services staff – all of which provide daily branch deliveries and mobile services to the schools, nursing homes, homebound customers, and other areas within our system’s service district
  • Reconfigured parking lots with pole lighting
  • Relocation of administrative offices to one wing on the lower floor to free up public space
  • New 52 seat meeting room with up-to-date technology components
  • New 8-12 seat public conference/meeting room with video conferencing capabilities
  • Technology updates to the existing meeting room to better accommodate the needs of public groups seeking meeting space
  • Flexible shelving upstairs that can be moved to clear space for larger programs w/ 80+ people
  • Updated wiring for laptop and computer use throughout the building
  • New carpeting, paint, and wall coverings
  • Updated furniture that is ready for today’s technology
