Discover Your Family Roots this Fall with Free Genealogy Classes

Want to discover your family roots? The Tuscarawas County Public Library System is offering free genealogy and family history programs this fall at the Main Library & Operations Center and nearby cemeteries.

“I have a personal interest in family history, but it is also fun and inspiring to see people find their own family history,” says Gina Merrill, a Public Service Associate who has been providing genealogy services at the Library for more than 25 years.

Merrill will offer a Genealogy Website for Beginners program on Monday, September 15th at 6:00 PM. Attendees will learn about basic websites that will help them get started with their family history search.

Those interested in getting assistance with their family history research can also book a one-on-one help session with a genealogy specialist by booking a 90-minute session anytime from 11:00AM and 4:30PM on select dates each month: September 17th; October 1st and 15th; November 5th; and December 3rd

In addition to this beginning genealogy class and one-on-one sessions, those interested in genealogy may also enjoy our Saturday morning Find A Grave: Headstone Hunter sessions. Participants join Library staff at a local cemetery to search for headstones that users have requested and contribute memorial information they discover that are missing on FindAGrave.com. Sessions for this fall include:

  • September 13th at 10:00AM: Calvary Cemetery (Delaware Dr. SE, New Philadelphia
  • October 4th at 10:00AM: Stone Creek Cemetery (Cemetery Hill Rd., Stone Creek)
  • November 9th at 10:00AM: Sharon Moravian Cemetery (4776 Moravian Church Rd. SE, New Philadelphia)

Registration for fall programs opens on September 3rd at 10am. To register, visit the event calendar at tusclibrary.org or call 330-364-4474. The Main Library & Operations Center is located at 121 Faire Ave NW New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
