In its efforts to encourage reading among elementary students, the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is launching an America 250 Reading Challenge opportunity from January through May of 2026.
“Our Library has a long-standing reading challenge for teens and adults to participate in. This year, we have received requests from parents and educators to create a reading challenge for our elementary school kids too,” said Public Relations Associate Emily Price. “To answer those requests, we created an America 250 Reading Challenge to align with the America 250 celebrations and reading initiatives across the county.”
The America 250 Challenge began on Monday, January 19th and runs until Monday, May 11th. Students can use Beanstack to log 25 books of their choice and earn 10 points per book logged for a total of 250 points to recognize America’s 250th birthday. Students can log books they read, books read to them, books their teacher reads to them, and books they read to their siblings. Books can come from their own home collection. their school or public library, or the bookmobile. Students collect their prize at their TCPL library or bookmobile.
Once the challenge is completed, kids will receive an America-themed slap bracelet while supplies last. All students who complete the challenge will be entered into a grand giveaway of African Safari Wildlife Adventure Park Pass (Good for up to 6 people-Children under 2 free) in Port Clinton, donated by WBTC Radio.
Beanstack is a reading tracker app that you can access online or by downloading the free Beanstack Tracker App in your mobile device’s app store. Beanstack rewards users with fun, online badges to encourage readers to complete the challenge. If customers need help using the app, they can call the Library for assistance. Those who prefer logging their reading on a paper tracker, can pick one up at any TCPL location.
