The Tuscarawas County Public Library System is hosting its first Fan Fest at the Main Library on Saturday, August 2nd from 11:00AM-4:00PM.
Fan Fest is a celebration of geeky curiosities and interests such as cosplay, anime, and more. Fan Fest will feature gaming and an array of activities and competitions on all levels of the Library, panel discussions, and a cosplay contest.
“As fandom conventions and cosplay have grown across the country, we wanted to bring something similar to our area,” says Public Service Associate Maeggie Dotts. “We hope that Fan Fest will become an annual Library event that the community can look forward to each year.”
Dotts noted she looks forward to participants coming dressed as their favorite characters and being a part of the cosplay contest, which will be a signature event held at the end of the Fan Fest. While the Cosplay Contest itself is for attendees 12 and older, there is an opportunity for children 12 and under who wore their favorite costumes to get involved in the Cosplay Catwalk, a fun way for everyone to get to showcase their participation.
In addition to the Cosplay Contest, there will be a room for Manga browsing, tabletop games, and stickers; a space for video game contests; and panel discussions on Cosplay 101 and Trivia. Additionally, the Children’s Department will feature a scavenger hunt, giant Jenga, and Storytimes for younger attendees.
Customer Service Assistant Karli Coventry said she is excited for the Library to have speakers share their expertise with attendees.
“Lexi.The.Geek and Ashasauros are talented cosplayers who compete in contests all across the state,” said Coventry. “They will share tips and tricks for creating cosplays and props.”
Fan Fest will also feature Boba Bowl, a food truck that serves Boba Tea.
