The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host local co-authors Kim Jurkovic and Shelagh Pruni on Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 AM at its Main Library and Operations Center. Jurkovic will discuss her recently published book The History of Manufacturing in Tuscarawas County.
Kim Jurkovic is the Curator at the Tuscarawas County Historical Society and local history librarian at the Dover Public Library. Shelagh Pruni is the Director of the Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum.
“This local history program is sure to be popular,” said Public Service Associate Gina Merrill. “Our County’s manufacturing history dates back centuries and, for many of us, has personal connections.”
The book focuses on the county’s manufacturing history from early grist mills and the iron and steel era to the post-World War II shift to plastics and chemicals. It highlights notable iron and steel industry companies such as Reeves Manufacturing, American Sheet and Tin Plate, and Dover Manufacturing. It later details other prominent Tuscarawas County companies, including Gradall, General Electric, Snyder Manufacturing, and Marlite.
Jurkovic and Pruni will follow their talk with a question-and-answer session and book signing. Books will be available to purchase at the conclusion of the program.
