TCPL Provides Home Deliveries

For Strasburg resident Linda Berndt home deliveries from the Tuscarawas County Public Library System help to keep her connected to the books she loves.

“I don’t drive and I can’t walk to the library like I used to,” said Berndt. “Home deliveries have been a great way to provide me with access to the legal thrillers and mystery suspense books I enjoy.”

According to Mobile Services Supervisor Emmie Troyer, the Library delivers books to homes, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities in the County Library’s service district.

“We pick up and drop off items on a bi-weekly basis to those who struggle to get to the library due to temporary or long-term illness, disability, or issues concerning mobility,” said Troyer.

According to Berndt, it’s exciting to get new books. The Mobile Services team provides her with books she requests and others based on her own preferences and interests.

Mobile Service customers are able to place their own holds or the library will provide items based on a customer’s likes and preferences. There is no check out limit or late fines for those participating in the home delivery service. Customers are also able to check out other items, including DVDs and CDs.

“When I was diagnosed with dementia, my doctor suggested I read more,” said Brendt. “The library has been invaluable and I look forward to their visits; their staff feels like family.”

According to Troyer, there are no income guidelines to participate in the program. The only requirement is that you live in the County library’s service district.

Those interested in receiving home deliveries can access forms online at www.tusclibrary.org, stop by one of the library system’s five locations (Main, Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, or Tuscarawas), or call Mobile Services directly at 330-364-4474 ext. 250 for more details.
